'D16'

JAN DE MAN.

reaching out TO US from antwerp, belgium.

'D16' IS AN INTERACTIVE STORAGE TABLE THAT BECOMES ALIVE WITH its USER. THE DESIGN CONSISTS OF TWO VOLUMES THAT ARE USED FOR STORAGE PURPOSES, MOVING IN TWO DIFFERENT AXES ACCORDING TO THE USER's NEED. THE VOLUMES CAN BE CONFIGURED HORIZONTALLY OR VERTICALLY.

THE PIECE CONSISTS OF BLACK POWDER COATED STEEL AND RAW BIRCH PLYWOOD.  THE CONTRASTING MATERIAL SELECTION UNDERLINES THE UNIQUENESS OF THE STORAGE COMPARTMENTS.

“ALTHOUGH THE MOVEMENT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE WAY WE'RE USED TO, THE PULLING, PUSHING AND TURNING OF THE WOODEN VOLUME THROUGH THE STATIC STEEL VOLUME HAS A NATURAL FEEL AND BECOMES A PLEASANT ACT”, STATES JAN WHEN DESCRIBING THE USER EXPERIENCE OF HIS DESIGN.
