THE BRAND TAKES ITS NAME FROM A LADY, AND A GENTLEMAN. FOUNDED BY DYLAN DAVIS AND JEAN LEE, THREE-YEAR-OLD SEATTLE DESIGN STUDIO LADIES AND GENTLEMEN HAS A SMALL, BUT COVETABLE COLLECTION OF OBJECTS, JEWELRY, FURNITURE, AND LIGHTING ALL MADE IN THE USA. THE STUDIO IS A BI-COASTAL BASED DESIGN STUDIO OPERATING BETWEEN SEATTLE AND BROOKLYN EMBRACING THE BEST OF BOTH COASTS.

L&G STUDIO'S AESTHETIC AND DESIGN PHILOSOPHY IS ABOUT COMPLEMENTARY OPPOSITES WITH AN UNEXPECTED BALANCE OF WARM MINIMALISM, PLAYFUL AUSTERITY, AND SIMPLE SOPHISTICATION. FOUNDED IN 2010, L&G STUDIO'S EXPLORATIVE SPIRIT IS A BLEND OF THEIR RESOURCEFUL CURIOSITY WITH THE DESIRE TO CELEBRATE MATERIAL & FUNCTIONALITY.

DYLAN AND JEAN EXPRESS THEIR PASSION AND CURIOSITY FOR MATERIAL EXPLORATION THROUGHOUT ALL OF THEIR DESIGNS. JEAN EXPLAINS, HOW SHE PUTS A COMBINATION OF MATERIALS ON HER TRAY, AND LOOK AT IT FOR DAYS, MEANWHILE WORKING IN THE STUDIO.

“AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS IF MY EYES GET USED TO THE ARRANGEMENT, I START DESIGNING WITH IT. IF NOT, I REPLACE CERTAIN ELEMENTS WITH NEW ONES UNTIL I LIKE THE LOOK OF THE END-RESULT. HARMONY IS EVERYTHING TO ME. IF THE TEXTURE, COLOR, OR THE FORM OF THE MATERIALS IN A DESIGN DON’T SPEAK TO EACH OTHER, THERE’S NO NEED TO FORCE THEM INTO AN UNWANTED MARRIAGE”, SHE STATES ABOUT THEIR DESIGN PROCESS.

THE DUO’S PIECES RATHER RESEMBLE CUBIST PAINTINGS. IN NEARLY ALL OF THEIR DESIGNS, THE COLLAGE OF VARIOUS MATERIALS SUCH AS SHEET METAL, WOOD, OR GLASS WITH DIFFERENT GEOMETRIC SHAPES FUSE TOGETHER TO CREATE A SINGLE FLUID OBJECT THAT LOOKS COHESIVE WITHIN ALL THE UNIQUE ELEMENTS THAT THEY CONTAIN.  THEIR SHAPE-UP PENDANT SERIES IS A GOOD EXAMPLE TO SHOWCASE THIS AMALGAM.

SHAPE-UP, DESIGNED FOR THE LIGHTING COMPANY ROLL & HILL, IS A VERSATILE LIGHTING SERIES IN CELEBRATION OF GEOMETRIC SHAPES, AND MATERIALS. THESE PLAYFUL COLLAGES UPEND TRADITIONAL NOTIONS OF SYMMETRY IN FAVOR OF A DYNAMIC SPATIAL HARMONY.  THE COLLECTION'S ABSTRACTED LAMPSHADE FORMS ARE NETWORKED VIA CONNECTING CORDS AND HUBS. AS IF CONNECTING THE DOTS, THE CORD NETWORK GRAPHICALLY EXPRESSES THE LIGHT SOURCES' FORMAL AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTION TO EACH OTHER.
