THE BRAND TAKES ITS NAME FROM THE LAST NAMES OF THE MARRIED COUPLE; FIEN MULLER AND HANNES VAN SEVEREN. THE BELGIAN COUPLE MULLER VAN SEVEREN IS A PARAGON OF CREATIVE CONSPIRACY. WHAT STARTED OUT BACK IN 2011 AS A SIMPLE EXPERIMENT BETWEEN THE VISUAL DESIGNERS RESULTED IN A CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED COLLECTION OF FURNITURE THAT DEFINES THE LINE BETWEEN SCULPTURE AND FUNCTIONAL HOMEWARE.

 THE SURPRISE FACTOR IS THAT NEITHER MULLER NOR VAN SEVEREN WAS TRAINED AS AN INDUSTRIAL DESIGNER. "THE DECISION TO START MAKING ‘FURNITURE SCULPTURES’ AROSE VERY SPONTANEOUSLY", STATES MULLER ABOUT THE BEGINNING OF THEIR JOURNEY. IT WAS THE OUTCOME OF THE COUPLE WAS BEING IN THE MIDST OF A HOME RENOVATION. WITH A MUTUAL INTEREST IN CREATING FINE ART FOR THE EVERYDAY AND A FOCUS ON CULTIVATING THEIR OWN LIVING SPACE, MULLER VAN SEVEREN WAS BORN.

 THEIR WORK IS A HAPPY MEDIUM BETWEEN MULLER'S PHOTOGRAPHIC EYE FOR COLOR AND COMPOSITION AND VAN SEVEREN'S ABSURDIST APPROACH TO SCULPTURE; GIVING EACH PIECE THE SENSE OF BEING AN INTERACTIVE ARTWORK. IN FACT, IT'S ALMOST AS THOUGH THE COUPLE IS LAUGHING AT THE IDEA OF FURNITURE, SEEING IT AS A CREATIVE CHALLENGE FOR EACH OF THEIR RESPECTIVE MEDIUMS AND WITHOUT THE CONCEPTUAL BARRIERS THAT ARE SO OFTEN SET WHEN TRAINED WITHIN A CONSUMER-BASED INDUSTRY.

 THERE IS WIT IN BOTH ARTISTS’ WORK WHICH FOLLOWS INTO THEIR FURNITURE COLLECTION – TWO SHELVING UNITS BECOME ENTANGLED AND INSEPARABLE, TWO PEOPLE ARE FORCED INTO CONVERSATION BY A DOUBLE SEAT OR THE COLOR RANGE MIGHT BE DEPENDENT ON THE HEALTH AND SAFETY COLOR-CODING OF A CHOPPING BOARD MANUFACTURER.

 WE LOVE THEM, FOR CREATING PIECES THAT EMBODY OUR PHILOSOPHY OF ‘PRODUCTURE’. THEIR CREATIONS STAND IN THE FINE LINE OF PRODUCT AND FURNITURE, WITH THE ADDITION OF A UNIQUE ARTISTIC DESIGN LANGUAGE. THEIR CREATIONS SIT SOMEWHERE BETWEEN DESIGN AND ART – IT’S OBVIOUSLY ‘FURNITURE’ BUT THE EMPHASIS IS NOT COMPLETELY CONCENTRATED ON FUNCTION AND SUGGESTS DIFFERENT WAYS OF LIVING AND USE OF SPACE, WITH AN UNCANNY TWIST ON UNIVERSAL FORMS.
